Description
Poptaslot, also known as Heringastate, is a historic *stins*—a type of fortified stone residence traditionally associated with the Frisian nobility in the Dutch province of Friesland. These buildings were often designed with a castle-like appearance, reflecting their status and function.
The estate was established sometime between 1512 and 1525, most likely by Sasker van Camstra. At the time of its founding, it was probably called Heringastate, a name derived from his mother’s family name, Heringa. Around 1631, the building underwent major renovations that significantly modernised its structure.
Its final resident, Henricus Popta, made an unusual decision: he stipulated that the house should never again be inhabited and must instead be carefully preserved. To this day, this wish is honored by appointed guardians (known in Dutch as *slotvoogden*) with four currently responsible for its upkeep.
Poptaslot is situated in the village of Marsum, close to the provincial capital Leeuwarden, and is officially protected as a Dutch national heritage site (rijksmonument number 28623).
This was a test for filming with my Phone, which I normally don't do.
