Description
You know Hana Mae Lee from Pitch Perfect, but now she's stepping behind the camera to make her feature directorial debut with Magick Mtn., an unconventional horror film filled with witches, rock and roll, and even a real ritual!
At Fantastic Fest 2026, Collider's Perri Nemiroff sat down with Lee and her longtime creative collaborator and co-director Hal Satin to discuss the making of Magick Mtn. and the challenges of bringing their unique vision to life.
The duo reveals how they made the movie with a largely nonprofessional cast, how their camera equipment was destroyed during production, and why their decades-long creative partnership was essential to finishing the film. They also discuss their horror inspirations, the freedom of working with performers from different artistic backgrounds, and the real ritual they were given permission to film.
Plus, Lee reflects on her Pitch Perfect co-stars becoming filmmakers themselves, why she always wanted to direct, and the possibility of bringing the Pitch Perfect cast together for something new.
