PHANTOM BLADE ZERO REVIEW: Is Kungfupunk the Next Big Thing?

GamerBraves Podcast 5 days ago

Description

Phantom Blade Zero brings its own spin to Chinese martial arts action with what S-GAME calls Kungfupunk, blending traditional wuxia influences with steampunk machinery, brutal swordplay, and a world filled with dangerous enemies.

After spending 30 hours playing Phantom Blade Zero on PC, we've experienced around 70–80% of the main story, experimented with different weapons, explored hidden paths, and faced bosses with unique mechanics that demand more than just button-mashing.

In this review, we break down the game's precise parries and dodges, distinct weapon movesets, challenging boss fights, and progression systems. We also explore how its semi-linear world rewards curiosity, even if unclear navigation and the lack of custom map markers can make finding your way around frustrating.

From its striking visual design to boss music that shifts from traditional martial arts influences to rock and punk, Phantom Blade Zero has a distinct identity. However, occasional stutters on our laptop setup and a cryptic opening story hold it back in a few areas.

So, is Kungfupunk the next big thing? Find out in our full Phantom Blade Zero review.
