Description
PAPANGU is a progressive rock and avant-garde metal band that was established in 2012 in João Pessoa, Brazil. Hailing from the easternmost region of the Americas, the band fuses stoner and sludge metal with Brazilian folk music, alongside the dissonant explorations of modern jazz and avant-metal. Their debut album, Holoceno (2021), is a critically acclaimed environmental concept album that swiftly propelled the band to the forefront of heavy music in Brazil. Their second album, Lampião Rei (2024), sees Papangu further exploring Brazilian music and modern jazz-rock, featuring collaborations with artists from renowned bands such as the French legends Magma, Deafkids, and Ad Nauseam. The album was recorded by Latin Grammy-winning engineer Fernando Sanches and mixed by Richard Behrens, a Berlin-based expert in psychedelia known for his work with Elder and Kadavar. Papangu have extensively toured Brazil – a significant achievement given the country's vast size – with performances at various venues, from large festivals (Knotfest Brazil, Abril Pro Rock) to theater auditoriums and rock clubs. They are also excited to embark on their first EU tour in Summer 2025, which will include the ArcTanGent Festival 2025.
