Our Chicago Hardy Fig Is Doing Great!

Midwest Gardener Guide 2 days ago

Description

Chicago Hardy figs are a cold‑tolerant variety of fig known for thriving in cooler climates while still producing fruit. This cultivar is prized for its ability to fruit on new wood, meaning it can die back in winter and still produce a harvest the following season. Stems tolerate temperatures down to about 10 degrees F., and roots can survive even lower. Ours freezes to the ground here on our fig planted in the ground, but our fig in a grow bag lived through the winter in our detached garage without losing last years growth.
