Description
Ship sweat can turn sugar into a solid mass, cause grain to mould, and leave steel coils or pipes stained with corrosion. But a ship travelling from cold conditions toward the tropics can face the opposite form of condensation: cargo sweat.
Here, warm humid outside air reaches cargo that is still cold from its loading port. Water condenses directly on the bags or cargo surface itself, and one real bagged-sugar claim reportedly exceeded one million dollars.
