Yamaha seems to be readying a new electric scooter, design patents of which have been filed in Japan. The leaked design registration reveals a bunch of details about the scooter, but the likelihood of it coming to India remains unknown as of now. The design of the scooter is quite contemporary and sporty, right from its layered front apron with sharp edges to the sleek, almost floating-style tail section. The clearly visible TFT screen also suggests that there will not be a dearth of modern features. And the absence of a keyhole in the images indicates that it will get a keyless starting mechanism. Other basic tech such as Bluetooth and smartphone connectivity should also be a part of the package. Other noteworthy details visible in the design registration are the centrally-mounted motor, which sends power to the rear wheel via a belt. Moreover, the battery seems to be placed under the seat. While the battery capacity is currently unknown, the under-seat placement might be an indication that the batteries will be swappable. It seems to be riding on what looks like 12-inch wheels with telescopic forks and dual springs at the rear. Braking hardware comprises a single disc at both ends. At present, it is not known whether Yamaha will launch this electric scooter outside of Japan. It will certainly be a good addition to the brand’s India portfolio, which, in the electric space, offers the EC-06 and Aerox E.
