New England Reptile Distributors (NERD) is under investigation for animal abuse.

The owner of NERD is Mr. Kevin McCurley who is responsible for the geometric proliferation of a genetic defect known colloquially as 'wobble' of a popular snake in the reptile hobby.
This is a tragic example of when greed and presumably pursuit of name recognition is greater than an ethical consideration in breeding a snake with a known serious genetic defect. If a feline or canine had a severe genetic defect and was bred and their offspring proliferated it would not only create public outcry against established peer-reviewed guidelines, but would result in animal cruelty charges and prosecution.
The snake is called a spider morph ball python and was banned in the United Kingdom ostensibly for ethical reasons.
Its believed in some minds the UK banning is considered a first step in first world countries making illegal the ownership of reptiles.
NERD/Mr. Kevin McCurley bred the ball python knowing it had a severe neurological condition. McCurley bred the snake against any ethical consideration of the welfare of its offspring in hopes of profiting and making a name for himself in the hobby. He made a name for himself but not the kind of name one would want.
In response to viewers wanting us to comment on Kevin McCurley's 'spider ball python' and its problem with wobble, due to time constraints we decided in this video to point out animals under his "care", so-called, and will instead create a video on the python fiasco at a later time going considerably deeper in depth.
New England Reptile Distributors has a long public history of questionable business ethics. This video only scratches the surface.
The investigation into NERD will be ongoing.
Mr. McCurley saw the ball python had a tragic neurological condition known colloquially in the reptile hobby as "wobble". Mr. McCurley placed ethics aside to bred the animal causing a geometric expansion of neurological disorders in captive ball pythons--an already popular snake--and as a result a firestorm of criticism is being fired against him and his company, New England Reptile Distributors. The snake has been banned in the United Kingdom.
