Animated film songs are very fascinating to me. These tunes travel across borders, languages, and cultures, sometimes becoming global phenomena, and sometimes staying hidden gems within their home countries. But here’s the tricky part: popularity in animation music is too vast and diverse to be condensed into a single list or video.
So for this video, I chose one specific lens: chart performance (and single sales).
Why? Because very few animation songs ever cross over into the mainstream pop world — being played on radios, topping national charts, and becoming hits far beyond the context of their films. When they do, it’s nothing short of magical.
Using chart records (and in Russia’s case, sales data), I’ve compiled a list of songs from 11 countries that truly broke out of their films and became part of popular culture.

Of course, there are many other songs across countries and decades that could be here, depending on how one defines “popular.” This is just one attempt, rooted in documented chart impact.
