I was recently invited to the launch of the new Fiat Grande Panda, set in the Worcestershire countryside, and I came away thinking this could be one of the most likeable small electric cars on sale.
I drove the all-electric La Prima, finished in Limone Yellow, and it suited it perfectly. It looked fun, funky and full of personality.
At the event, Fiat talked us through the thinking behind the car and where the brand is heading next. The Grande Panda marks the start of a new global family for Fiat, focused on simple, useful and characterful cars that still feel affordable.
You can see the Panda heritage too. The boxy shape, chunky proportions, pixel-style lights, Panda lettering, old Fiat four-bar logo and Lingotto-inspired interior all give it real charm.
Spec-wise, the electric model has a 44kWh battery, 113 horsepower and up to 199 miles of WLTP range. You also get 100kW rapid charging, a 361-litre boot and a 10.25-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
On the road, it felt simple, quiet and easy to enjoy. It wasn’t trying to be sporty. It was trying to be useful, affordable and cool.
