The Ford Explorer Premium Extended Range is a rear wheel drive electric family SUV with a 77 kWh battery, 286 horsepower and 545 Nm of torque. It reaches 62 mph in around 6.4 seconds and offers up to around 365 miles WLTP range. DC rapid charging peaks at 135 kW, with 10 to 80 percent taking roughly 28 minutes, while 11 kW AC charging takes around seven hours.
Premium trim adds 20 inch alloy wheels, a panoramic roof, heated seats, heated steering wheel, massage function and a 14.6 inch SYNC Move touchscreen that can slide to reveal hidden storage. Practicality is strong too, with 465 litres of boot space and up to 1,455 litres with the rear seats folded.
On the road, the Explorer feels smooth, quiet and refined, with Eco, Normal and Sport drive modes. Rivals include the Tesla Model Y, Volkswagen ID.4, Renault Scenic E Tech, Kia EV6 and Peugeot E 3008, while the Ford Capri offers a sleeker alternative with slightly more luggage space.
