Description
Trying out a new song, Ghosts and Fire, as I start working on my next album.
I believe in love but not in fate
I stand where the ground still knows our weight
I always knew we’d both return
The deepest fire is the slowest burn
Three thousand stars in the sky tonight
Safe in the dark, embraced by their light
Then two meteors flare brighter than them all
Just dead things that burn only when they fall
CHORUS
Dancing with ghosts, playing with fire
Dragging dead dreams from the funeral pyre
Breathing the past till we’re both stained in ash
And there’s smoke in our breath
We stand back-to-back, both dressed in black
At our love’s undeath
You’re not my heart, you’re what remains
You’re the poison that heals, running through my veins
I only exist between you and the dawn
Like a pale ghost fading when the porchlight is on
Three thousand trees surround me tonight
Only two of them scarred by the lightning’s bite
We didn’t mean to raise the dead
We just buried our love in too shallow a bed
CHORUS
BRIDGE
Ghosts and fire, shadows and hurt
We burned all the bridges now we’re trudging through dirt
And water and mud, and stumps and stones
Ghosts and fire have stripped our bones
