Description
Footage partly sound. On 29 February 1956, Marilyn Monroe appeared at Beverly Hills Municipal Court in California to answer for traffic violations dating back to November 1954.
Marilyn had been cited for driving without a valid driver's licence while travelling along Sunset Boulevard. She had not appeared in court earlier because she was in New York.
She appeared before Judge Charles J. Griffin, accompanied by her attorney, Irving L. Stein. The case attracted considerable attention from photographers and reporters, as it was one of the first major opportunities for the press to photograph Marilyn following her extended absence from Hollywood.
Marilyn was fined $56, including a penalty for failing to appear in court. Her court appearance became a widely reported news story in March 1956.
