Description
During the Great Migration, approximately 250,000 to 300,000 wildebeests perish annually out of a total population of about 1.5 million. This staggering loss equates to roughly 20% of the migrating population. While predators take a heavy toll, many also perish from drowning, stampedes, exhaustion, and starvation. Despite the carnage, predators sustain a balanced ecosystem by weeding out the weak, preventing overpopulation, and distributing vital nutrients back to the environment.
