Description

This week, we made a banner to decorate Bob's abandoned studio :)

For this project, you'll need a triangular template, scraps, and some bias tape.

As promised, links to our bias tape:

AND the tailor's clapper! https://www.sewingpartsonline.com/products/riley-blake-designs-hardwood-tailors-clapper-12in

I recently learned about tailor's clappers while reading my aunt's 1978 edition of Reader's Digest Complete Guide to Sewing (a reference book I highly recommend to all sewists, if you can get your hands on it!).

They work by using the weight of the wood to lock the fibers of your fabric in place as it cools and the steam evaporates after pressing. This helps create those extra crisp seams and creases.

I think about it like throwing your hair in rollers after curling it so the curls don't succumb to gravity while they are still warm. You don't NEED to do that, but it certianly helps!

It's simple technology, but really neat!

Looking forward to next week's DIY... It's a fun one!
