(Ailurus fulgens) - Le Petit panda ou Panda roux (Ailurus fulgens), parfois appelé « Panda fuligineux » ou « Panda éclatant », est un mammifère protégé et en danger d'extinction de la famille des Ailuridés. Le Panda roux est originaire de l'Himalaya et du Sud-Ouest de la Chine et préfère vivre dans les forêts montagneuses mixtes tempérées de la région, riches en bambou.
Le Panda roux a une fourrure brun roux, une longue queue touffue et une démarche dandinante en raison de ses pattes avant plus courtes ; il est à peu près de la taille d'un chat, bien que son corps soit plus long. Il est arboricole et a un régime alimentaire omnivore, essentiellement herbivore et riche en bambous, alors qu'il appartient à l'ordre des carnivores. C'est un animal solitaire, principalement actif du crépuscule à l'aube, et il est largement sédentaire pendant la journée.
Il est inscrit en tant qu'espèce menacée sur la liste rouge de l'UICN, car la population sauvage est estimée à moins de 10 000 individus matures et continue à décliner en raison de la perte et de la fragmentation de son habitat, du braconnage et de la consanguinité.

(Ailurus fulgens) - The Lesser or Red panda (Ailurus fulgens), sometimes called «Sooty panda» or «Bright panda», is a protected and endangered mammal of the Ailuridae family. The red panda is native to the Himalayas and southwestern China and prefers to live in the region’s temperate mixed mountain forests, rich in bamboo.
The Red Panda has a reddish-brown fur, a long bushy tail and a waddling gait due to its shorter front legs; it is about the size of a cat, although its body is longer. It is arboreal and has an omnivorous diet, essentially herbivore and rich in bamboo, while it belongs to the order of carnivores. It is a solitary animal, mainly active from dusk to dawn, and it is largely sedentary during the day.
It is listed as an endangered species on the IUCN Red List, as the wild population is estimated at less than 10,000 mature individuals and continues to decline due to habitat loss and fragmentation, poaching, and inbreeding.
