[KiniNews] Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has defended the Confidence and Supply Agreement (CSA) signed between the Federal Government and 13 lawmakers, saying such arrangements are not unusual and follow a precedent established by previous administrations.
He said similar agreements had been implemented when Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Barisan Nasional (BN) were in power.
Asked about political analysts’ suggestions that the CSA could serve as a warning to Unity Government component parties against withdrawing their support or switching allegiances, Anwar said such views were a matter of political interpretation.
Meanwhile, in a separate story, political scientist Wong Chin Huat said that the CSA Anwar a bigger cushion to absorb any absence of backbenchers should there be a constitutional amendment vote.
The CSA could help prevent a similar situation, as seen in the government's previous attempt to pass the prime ministerial term-limit bill, which fell short by just two votes after eight government backbenchers were absent from the vote.
