It Was 100°F at 5AM… We Still Poured This Concrete Slab

Odell Complete Concrete Video 7 days ago

Description

At 5:00 AM in Bullhead City, Arizona, it was already around 100°F—and this six-inch concrete slab still had to be poured, finished, and saw cut before temperatures climbed toward 115°F.

David Odell and the Odell Complete Concrete crew are filling the space between two existing concrete sections behind a warehouse. The new slab runs tightly along the building and wood fence, with all four areas pitched toward a custom-built channel drain.

Underneath the drain is a rip-rap drainage bed extending approximately two feet into the ground. Water from the building’s roof drains and downspouts will flow across the slab, enter the catch basin, and gradually drain into the soil.

The crew uses a 3,000 PSI fiber-reinforced concrete mix with 2% retarder to manage the extreme heat. The project includes rebar dowels, the Milwaukee RedStick level, Cadillac bull float, kneeboard edge work, broom finishing, and early-entry saw cutting with Milwaukee battery-powered equipment.

David also explains why matching the elevation of the existing concrete matters, how the crew identifies low spots, and why the intersections of the control joints receive additional depth.
