Description
Is the base M6 Mac mini really enough for Final Cut Pro?
In this video, I put the M6 Mac mini up against my original M1 Mac mini, M4 Pro Mac mini, and M5 Max MacBook Pro using the exact same Final Cut Pro project.
Instead of synthetic benchmarks, I wanted to test the things that actually matter while editing — timeline performance, sustained playback, rendering, exporting, transcoding, Smooth Slo-Mo, Auto Mask, and more.
The M1 is still surprisingly usable almost six years later, the M4 Pro remains an excellent Final Cut Pro machine, and the M5 Max is incredibly powerful. But the base M6 surprised me in more than a few of these tests.
So do Final Cut Pro editors really need a Pro or Max chip anymore?
