Here is our version of "Into the West" from the Return of the King movie. We hope you enjoy it:)
Description:
We wanted to make a memorable version of this piece that would honor its legacy as well as tap into our group’s potential. We begin the piece in a format typical to our sound, as heard in our cover of “The Last Goodbye” wherein the melody trades off frequently between the men. Then in the second half of the piece, it passes to the ladies’ voices who carry this sentimental melody in Elvish, a language that we think encapsulates the heart of the meaning of the piece. Though we do not possess the expertise to translate the original lyrics of Into the West, we thought it was almost more fitting to use actual passages from Tolkien’s works that still very much nod to the meaning of the text: that this life is stricken with tears, but that death is the doorway to a life of eternal bliss.
Lyrics:
Lay down
Your sweet and weary head
Night is falling
You have come to journey's end
Sleep now
and dream of the ones who came before
They are calling
From across the distant shore
Why do you weep?
What are these tears upon your face?
Soon you will see
All of your fears will pass away
Safe in my arms
You're only sleeping
What can you see
On the horizon?
Why do the white gulls call?
Across the sea
A pale moon rises
The ships have come
To carry you home
And all will turn to silver glass
A light on the water
Grey ships pass
Into the West
