Imaad Wasif (Lowercase, Alaska!, Yeah Yeah Yeahs,) met up with us at The Smell in Los Angeles to talk about the production of his new solo record "Superconsciousness"—an album which embodies his hope, his pain, and every facet of his soul.
In addition to several of his favorite EarthQuaker Devices, the record makes use of a Wire Instruments pedal built by his friend Earnie Bailey (Kurt Cobain's guitar tech).
"It's a very gritty sounding distortion pedal, but the interesting thing is that it can be switched to have sub overtones and also be switched to go into more of a Big Muff sound. There's a compression overload that gets really squashed. I used it on the beginning of 'Body & Soul' on the record."
