If you’re always climbing the mountain, but never stop to appreciate the view, then what’s the point? I personally struggle with this. I’m naturally ambitious and pack my schedule beyond what’s humanly possible, then time slips by and I feel upset that I worked straight through vital years in my life and come to regret it later. The solution I have found is not necessarily to curb ambition or strive to achieve less, but to focus on being present every day. I set big goals and a reasonable timeline, then work backwards from there to schedule out my monthly, weekly and daily tasks, then I just keep chipping away while trying to stay in the present moment. I try to appreciate all that I have achieved each day, while knowing that with steady progress I will arrive at my goals eventually. This removes the obsession of “what’s next” while enjoying the life that’s right in front of me that I’ve already worked so hard for.
