Strong drawing skills are not limited to graphite pencil. The fundamental principles of figurative drawing remain useful whether you work with charcoal, colored chalk, ink, paint, or another medium. Life Drawing Academy focuses on these transferable skills.
The course teaches construction, proportions, perspective, anatomy, contours, alignments, and tonal rendering. These principles help you understand what you are drawing before you decide how to render it. A solid foundation allows you to adapt your knowledge to different materials and artistic styles.
For portrait artists, this means learning how to build the head as a three-dimensional form, place facial features correctly, and describe volume through line and tone. Once these skills become more reliable, experimenting with materials becomes much more productive.
Life Drawing Academy provides self-paced video lessons, assignments, and tutor support. Students can watch demonstrations repeatedly, practice with the medium they prefer, and submit artwork for critique.
If you enjoy exploring different drawing tools but want your work to become more consistent, focus on fundamentals first. These lessons help you build a foundation that supports your development across sketching, portraiture, figure drawing, and painting.
