This lesson tackles one of the most overlooked rules in four-part harmony, avoiding crossing parts. Using a real musical example, it explains what crossing parts are, why they create a disjointed and unsatisfying sound even when chord choices are perfectly reasonable, and how to spot them across soprano, alto, tenor, and bass lines. You will also learn why large leaps are a warning sign, and how simply rearranging notes in the middle voices can transform clunky harmony into something smooth and cohesive.
