Description
Scientists at TU Delft Mechanical Engineering developed the SensorBox, a compact system designed to capture how vessels experience their surroundings. Equipped with cameras, LiDAR and radar, it collects detailed maritime data from multiple perspectives.
This data is used to train AI models that can detect ships and other objects at sea. By improving how autonomous vessels perceive their environment, the SensorBox contributes to safer and smarter shipping.
This research was a joint effort by the Researchlab Autonomous Shipping (rasdelft.nl) and the Intelligent Vehicles Group (https://intelligent-vehicles.org/).
