Come with me to Pasadena, California, where I’m exploring two very different destinations that celebrate Middle Eastern flavors in their own unique ways: Old Sasoon Bakery and Kinrose Creamery!

First, we visit Old Sasoon Bakery, a beloved Armenian bakery with roots going back to Aleppo, Syria. Founded by Haroutioun Geragosian in Aleppo in 1948 and brought to Pasadena in 1986, Old Sasoon has been preserving Armenian and Syrian-Armenian baking traditions for generations. I’m tasting favorites including lahmajun, maneish and khachapuri while exploring the fascinating connections between Armenian, Syrian and broader Middle Eastern food traditions.

Then we're switching gears completely and heading to Kinrose Creamery, where Middle Eastern flavors meet ice cream! Think pistachio, rose, baklava-inspired flavors and other familiar tastes from the region—but in a whole new form.

What I love about these two stops is that they represent two sides of the same food story: preserving tradition while also reinventing it.

If you love Armenian food, Middle Eastern food, Syrian cuisine, Armenian bakeries, Middle Eastern desserts, Los Angeles food, Pasadena restaurants and hidden food gems in Southern California, you're going to want to come along!
