Description
Barry Rosen had fallen in love with Iran during a two year stint in the Peace Corps, and relished the opportunity to return to the country as press attaché to the United States embassy in Tehran.
When student militants took over the embassy on November 4, 1979, holding 52 American diplomats, Marines, and civilians captive for 444 days, Barry was among the hostages.
The Iran hostage crisis would transform both the U.S. and Iran and forever upend the focus and direction of American foreign policy.
