Before the health scare. Before the wake-up calls. Before life reminded us how fragile time really is.
Seeing my mom here, cigarette in hand and smiling without a worry in the world, hits different now. And while so much has changed since this video was taken, one thing I’ll never stop being grateful for is that I got sober in time to truly be present for her golden years.
Addiction stole enough from both of us already. Recovery gave me the chance to sit with her, laugh with her, make memories with her, and love her the way a son should.
Happy Mother’s Day to the woman who never gave up on me, even when I gave up on myself. I love you, Mom. ❤️
