“Gracias a la Vida” is a much beloved song from Chile by the singer-songwriter Violeta Para. Violeta was key pioneer in the Nueva Conción Chilena, an internationally influential movement that renewed and revitalised Chilean folk music. It was a pleasure to play this arrangement by British-Chilean guitarist Emmanuel Sowicz while I was performing at the “Semana Internacional de la Guitarra” in Frutillar, Chile. This beautiful hall is a part of the Teatro del Lago and behind me, although obscured, is the volcano Osorno. I have so many fond memories from this wonderful guitar festival and my time in Chile - what a magical place!
