Going Loco: Mexico’s Maya Train - Part 1

BBC Travel Show Video 3 months ago

Description

For the first time ever, the towns, villages, beaches and forest of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula are connected by a new rail line. The Maya Train took its inaugural journey in 2023 - but not without controversy. Some claim its done immeasurable damage to the environment while others say its harmed precious historic Mayan archaeological sites. Qasa Alom rides the brand new Mayan loop, from the party town of Cancun to the ancient ruins of Chichen Itza and the old Mayan city of Campeche at carnival time to see if the benefits of this ambitious project outweigh the harms.
