God of War 3: R - Hyperion Ascension Jump (Whip-less magnetism – A New Technique)

findlestick Review 1 years ago

Description

Hyperion Ascension Jump (HAJ) is a new high jump with magnetic effects that doesn’t require the Whip.

Points of interest:
I. The momentum from Hyperion Rush’s Ascension carries into some (or all?) follow-up attacks, completely negating Unending Sorrow’s dipping effect (known?). This lets you do higher Sorrow Jumps and gives certain follow-up attacks magnetic ledge-grabbing properties equivalent to that of the Whip. When combined with a Sorrow Jump, this lets Kratos magnetically grab extremely high ledges without needed the Whip.

II. Not in video (under investigation): Hyperion Rush’s Ascension has a strange property that lets Kratos do ground moves while airborne, such as launchers. I haven’t explored this in depth yet, but it could lead to new jumps. (Right now, I’m focused on the ‘History of God of War 3 Glitching’ video.)

III. I haven’t tested whether this lets Kratos grab ledges underfoot, but if it does, that means that we can breach out-of-bounds at every chest in the game and at other yet undiscovered ledges, without needed an enemy or a glitched Soul Summon.

IV. The magnetic effect of HAJ has allowed me to breach certain walls.

V. Not in video: If the follow-up attack is performed with the Blades you can also do basic Severe Judgement height-equivalent jumps without needing the Whip, which opens up new skips for New Game runs. Although having to upgrade the Claws to do Unending Sorrow might make it unfeasible?

VI. This jump also works with the alternate Hyperion Rush Ascension that is done with Athena’s blades, though its effects may vary in unknown ways.

Instructions (note that other follow up attacks might potentially be better, but I don’t have the time to give it the type of thorough testing that I’d like. So if you find something that works better, I’d be interested in hearing it).

1. Do a Hyperion Rush (of either blade) followed by its Ascension. During this animation switch to the Claws and do Unending Sorrow at the very first moment you can.

2. During Unending Sorrow switch to the Cestus and immediately jump and do any air-attack when Unending Sorrow ends. In this video I did it with a basic Square attack and a Vicious Maul attack (which could give more height? It’s early days, time will tell).

3. Toggle Rage-mode on-and-off VERY quickly at a certain phase of the Cestus’ attack-animation (you’ll have to experiment to get the timing on this, which is the most crucial part if you want the magnetic effect to work) which gives Kratos a height-boost, then immediately follow up by flicking the Bow, dashing and flicking the Bow again (do a secondary dash if you’re having trouble with the timing). If done correctly Kratos will magnetically grab the ledge.

Note: I’ve barely tested this, so feel free to experiment with other attack configurations because experience tells me that there’s more to all this than what you see here. At some point I’ll get back to this and test it thoroughly.
