The stone reefs of Gl. Ålbo were built in front of the local dive center in early 2025 in an attempt to icrease the biodiversity in the area of southern Little Belt - a narrow body of water connecting Kattegat (entry to the North Sea) and Baltic Sea. The system of five reefs lays in depths between 5 and 15 meters. About 3000 m³ of granite stones from Southern Norway were used to provide shelter for junevile fish and crustaceans.
This was the perfect opportunity for long-term photogrammetry survey of the marine life setteling on a fresh substrate. The German team around Andreas Küver from the Association for Aquatic Systems Analysis used the dives between march and may 2025 to gain initial experience in large-scale SFM (Structure-From-Motion) modelling of living riffs.
