Le mythe d’Orlando furioso, imaginé par Ludovico Ariosto au xviᵉ siècle, est un des plus féconds pour l’imaginaire dramatique et musical. Entre héroïsme chevaleresque, tourments amoureux et vertige psychologique, il explore les limites de la passion et les fractures de l’âme humaine, offrant aux compositeurs baroques un terrain idéal pour exprimer la tension entre raison et folie, ordre et chaos. En témoigne ce programme, une traversée des multiples visages d’Orlando à travers des extraits d’opéras de Vivaldi, Haendel, Steffani, Fux et Porpora, où récitatifs, airs et mouvements instrumentaux se font les miroirs de son monde intérieur.
The myth of Orlando Furioso, conceived by Ludovico Ariosto in the 16th century, is one of the most fertile for dramatic and musical imagination. Between chivalrous heroism, romantic torment and psychological turmoil, it explores the limits of passion and the fractures of the human soul, offering Baroque composers an ideal terrain for expressing the tension between reason and madness, order and chaos. This programme bears witness to this, traversing the many faces of Orlando through excerpts from operas by Vivaldi, Handel, Steffani, Fux and Porpora, where recitatives, arias and instrumental movements mirror his inner world.
