You would assume that if an animal has no brain, that means it's stupid & lacks self-awareness.. right? Wrong! The box jellyfish doesn't have a traditional brain (although it does have 4 "brain-like" neuron clusters) yet it is remarkable in what it can do. First, it has 24 eyes.. packed with retinas and lenses which allow it to see images just like humans. They can also learn, have memories, actively hunt their prey, and even sleeps! It's important not to judge an animal by what it looks like, or what body part it "lacks" compared to a human or mammal as we're not the blueprint for evolution. Other animals in history were also considered "stupid", like birds, because they didn't have a cerebral cortex... but now we know they're one of the smartest animals on Earth (especially corvids!). Unfortunately the same history is repeating with reptiles, even though we now know they feel emotions like humans (recent study on tortoisese showing they feel positivity and optimism), have parental care, can be monogamous, and also use tools.
