One minute, Evan was a happy-go-lucky 4-year-old. The next, his family learned he had cancer and that parts of the tumor were deeply entrenched in his brain. In a heartbeat, everything changed.
Instead of running outside, riding his bike and playing with friends, Evan faced a long and uncertain medical journey. His parents, Ian and Sam, found themselves grieving the childhood they had imagined for him while confronting one frightening unknown after another.
At Nationwide Children’s Hospital, specialists from across the hospital came together around one shared goal: giving Evan the care he needed to survive, heal and move forward. For his family, the team’s expertise mattered, but so did the passion and compassion they showed Evan through every step of his fight.
Now, a little more of the old Evan returns each day. His feistiness is coming back, his strength continues to grow and his family is grateful for the people they credit with saving his life.
