Volvo Cars CEO Jim Rowan recently made front-page news two weeks ago when he predicted that electric vehicles — or, at least, his electric vehicles — will reach price parity with their internal-combustion counterparts. And it wasn’t just that he was calling for said price-competitiveness that was so shocking, but rather that he thought his company could attain this Holy Grail of EV engineering as soon as 2025. So confident is he that Volvo can reduce the costs of its batteries in just two years that he’s calling for an end to all EV subsidies, telling, again, Automotive News that “there’s no way that any company should be relying on government subsidy to be successful.”
I’m calling nonsense.
