The Arctic and Antarctic are no longer distant frontiers of scientific exploration; they are becoming increasingly central to the world’s strategic, environmental, economic and geopolitical calculations. In this discussion, I examine India’s role and presence in the polar regions, drawing on the work of the Departmentally Related Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs, and explores the importance of scientific research, polar diplomacy, maritime connectivity, critical minerals, environmental protection and strengthening India’s polar research infrastructure.
