Does Marathon need BIGGER maps?

Myelin Games Video 9 days ago

Description

Are Marathon's maps too small? In this video, I'm discussing how map size affects the extraction shooter experience, from constant PvP encounters and third-partying to stealth, exploration, and the freedom to choose your own fights.

Compared to extraction games like Call of Duty: DMZ and HUNGER, Marathon's smaller maps raise an interesting question: does the compact design create more exciting encounters, or does it make raids feel too crowded and predictable?

I'll break down the biggest problems with Marathon's map size, including spawn rushing, limited escape routes, repetitive encounters, and how constant PvP can overshadow contracts, PvE, and exploration. But making maps bigger isn't a perfect solution either. Longer travel times, empty areas, and lower player density could create their own problems.

So, does Marathon need bigger maps, or does Bungie need to rethink how its existing maps are designed?

Let me know what you think in the comments! Would you prefer larger maps with more room to explore and survive, or do you enjoy Marathon's fast-paced, action-packed raids?
