Description
Your garden may be winding down for the season, but what you do with your soil right now can make a huge difference next spring.
In this video, I’ll show you how I prepare my garden beds at the end of the season to protect the soil, replenish organic matter, reduce disease problems, and set next year’s garden up for success.
We’ll talk about cleaning up old plant material, adding compost and mulch, and one of the most overlooked ways to improve your soil over winter: cover crops. I’ll walk you through some of my favorites, including crimson clover, winter rye, and hairy vetch, plus when to plant them, when to cut them down, and how they can benefit your garden.
Don’t just abandon your beds when the summer garden is finished. A little work now can mean healthier soil and stronger plants when spring arrives.
