In this video, I’m walking you through the full composting process — from kitchen scraps and yard waste to rich, usable compost over 10–12 months! 🌱
I started this project using everyday organic materials: juice pulp, fruit peels, shredded cardboard, dried leaves, twigs, and even old potting soil. Over time, I filled four 80-gallon compost bags, each taking about three months to fill. As the compost broke down, the bags shrank to nearly a quarter of their original size — leaving behind nutrient-rich compost ready for the garden.
To finish the process, I built my own compost sifter and used it to separate fine compost from larger, unprocessed materials. The sifter helps remove old roots and sticks, keeping the compost light, airy, and perfect for mixing with soil amendments.
I maximize my compost by blending it with perlite, vermiculite, coco coir, peat moss, worm castings, and native soil. Together, this mix creates a perfect growing environment that supports healthy root development and plant growth.
