Ten years ago — in 2016 — Los Angeles rock band Deap Vally released their second studio album, “Femejism.” Co-produced by Deap Vally with Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the album includes the singles “Royal Jelly” and “Smile More.” The latter song is a powerful feminist anthem that looks scornfully at dudes who condescendingly engage with women. “Deap Vally have always sounded massive,” wrote DIY magazine at the time, “but on ‘Smile More’ they’re in another league of badass.”
In April 2017, Deap Vally visited The Current studio, where the rock duo (guitarist Lindsay Troy and drummer Julie Edwards) knocked out this rocking version of “Smile More.”
