Born: February 11, 1974, Richmond, Virginia, U.S., and died: October 14, 2025, New York City, U.S., after short battle with cancer. He was an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and record producer associated with the neo-soul movement circa the mid-90s. In his teens he won the amateur talent competition at Harlem's Apollo Theater three weeks in a row. His debut solo album, Brown Sugar (1995), received widespread acclaim and sold over two million copies. His next album, Voodoo (2000), debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200. Its lead single, "Untitled (How Does It Feel)," entered the R&B charts and won a Grammy for Best Male R&B Vocal.
Shauntell Baumgard is a very talented Surinamese violinist from the Netherlands. She started playing the violin at the age of 4. Shauntell Baumgard is an artist who plays from the deepest part of her heart. Voiced by her violin one could read her to be romantic with a flavour of spice, sweetened intelligence, elegance and a storyteller aiming to touch and awaken others. She plays various music genres on her instrument, including Hip-Hop, Pop, Soul, Argentine tango, and light Classical music.
Shauntell initially developed as an autodidact. She was still in elementary school when she searched for videos of violinists online. "I just kept watching and listening. Analyzing what they were doing and then trying it myself. Karen Briggs was my biggest inspiration. She plays with all her heart and masters many genres." Coming from a Surinamese family with twelve other brothers and sisters, playing the violin wasn't an obvious choice. "A Black girl doesn't play the violin" — I've been told that more than once. I was often put at the back of the line when I played in orchestras, and I feel like I had to prove myself even more. Sometimes I even considered quitting, but luckily, I always had the support of my parents, grandmother, and the internet audience that watches my videos."
