Classic tornadoes from a highly photogenic supercell near Arnett Oklahoma on May 18, 2025. From initiation to dissipation, this is my entire chasing strategy of this impressive storm.

THE FOUR TORNADOES NEAR ARNETT OKLAHOMA
Four tornadoes were documented. The first was a thin anticyclonic rope tornado that reached EF1 intensity causing damage to a home and uprooting several trees.

The 2nd tornado tracked into unpopulated terrain with few unmaintained roads. This tornado was not rated a of this writing.

Prior to the 3rd tornado developing, the rotating storm base tracked above my vehicle. Numerous small funnel clouds and areas of weaker vorticity is evident in the cloud base. This appears to match high resolution supercomputer simulations of tornadogenesis. It seems the supercell is corralling all this weaker positive vorticity, and strengthening it, by bundling it all together. The tornado spun up a debris cloud southwest of Arnett and was tracking directly toward town. Snapping power line poles, and causing extensive tree damage, this tornado reached EF3 intensity as it partially debarked trees. Just before entering town, the powerful tornado suddenly dissipated.

The forth tornado occurred west of Arnett tracking north of town causing very little damage.

As the storm raced away at around roughly 30 mph, the late May Storm Chasing Horde was in hot pursuit moving roughy 2 1/2 miles per hour.
Though the storm was done producing tornadoes, new storms were developing and heading into Kansas where several towns would not be as fortunate as Arnett. But that’s a whole other story.
