Description
Following the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster in Ukraine, Bronislav Futomskyi worked in the relief effort, unaware of the dangerous levels of radiation to which he was being exposed. A decade later, he was diagnosed with cancer and underwent 18 medical procedures.
Through that suffering, he was drawn back to the practice of his Catholic faith. Now, forty years after Chernobyl and with a clean bill of health, Futomskyi serves as Grand Knight of Council 16417 in Khmelnytskyi, Ukraine, leading his brother Knights in charitable service and organizing round-the-clock prayer during the opening days of the war in Ukraine.
