The chain was extremely greasy and dirty. I was going to clean and lube the chain. But before I spent the time doing that, I checked the chain for wear. It turned out the chain showed significant wear, and needed to be replaced. So at least it saved me the effort of cleaning the old chain. I show the process of checking a bike chain for wear, and replacing a bike chain.
