I never work on playing through the changes, and rock solos are pretty different from jazz solos in this regard anyway, even when they do acknowledge the harmony. But I got hooked on the simple IV-VII-I Muffin Man progression, which has a couple of nice characteristics. The slow tempo gives you just enough time on each chord. And the subdivisions are comfortable. Some tempos suck, where the only available picking speeds are "medium" and "too fast". This is one right in the middle: sixteenths for medium speed and sextuplets for fast.
