Bow Control Fundamentals for Better Cello Tone CTC05

Jonathan Humphries Guide 2 months ago

Description

In this video, I break down the fundamentals of bow control and show you how better control leads to better tone on the cello.

In this system, bow control is built on four main elements:
• presence
• distribution
• speed
• bow change

When these four work together, the bow feels deliberate and the tone stays stable. When one breaks down, the sound usually tells you immediately.

In this lesson, you’ll learn:
- what bow presence means
- how to use the bow more intentionally
- why speed affects tone stability
- why bow changes are one of the riskiest moments for losing sound quality

This lesson is part of Tone Lab, the tone-first system I’m building for adult cello players.

The goal of Tone Lab is simple:
to help you stop guessing and start understanding what actually creates a stable, resonant, beautiful tone on the cello.

If you want more control, cleaner bowing, and more reliable tone, you’re in the right place.
