Description
How BMW boxer motorcycle engines are made in Germany. This factory tour shows the production and assembly of BMW Motorrad boxer engines at BMW Group Plant Berlin, including engine components, machining, assembly, testing and final inspection.
The video follows several generations of BMW flat-twin boxer engines, including the 1250 cc ShiftCam engine, the newer 1300 cc ShiftCam generation, the 1802 cc Big Boxer used in the BMW R 18 family, and the air/oil-cooled boxer engine used in the BMW R 12 G/S.
Inside the factory, workers prepare and assemble major engine components, install cylinder heads, covers, shafts, intake and exhaust-side parts, and complete detailed quality checks before the engines continue into motorcycle production.
BMW Group Plant Berlin has been producing motorcycles for the world market since 1969. Today, the plant is the home of BMW Motorrad production and plays a central role in manufacturing BMW motorcycles, engines and components.
The video also shows different boxer engine architectures, from modern liquid-cooled ShiftCam units for the GS family to the large-displacement Big Boxer engine for the BMW R 18 models.
