Though most of you probably know me for my jazz arrangements and jazz in general, there are so many other genres of music that I love to listen to. Working on this soundtrack was the perfect chance for me to get to stretch out and work in other styles like orchestral, electronic music, more acoustic folk-y stuff... all the different genres that help fill out the universe within a game.

This particular track is firmly in the "orchestral" style with a little bit of synth added on top! I think this track is a really good centerpiece for what you can expect out of the entire Battle Suit Aces soundtrack. The core of the game's soundtrack comes back to this orchestral + synth mix, but there are plenty of tracks where the game branches away from this core to add more color and variety. Even though this track isn't jazz in and of itself, I always find myself coming back to the foundations of jazz harmony and incorporating some of those sounds when appropriate. I love having chances to use different tools in my musical toolbox!

You'll notice I'm playing a lot of instruments on this track, and... yep I'm playing a lot of stuff! In fact, that's largely the case throughout the whole soundtrack. I think nearly every track on this OST features at least one live instrumental performance by me, with many tracks having many layers (such as this track, and the other orchestrally-focused ones!) While I don't think you _need_ live instrumentalists in every piece of music to make it good, depending on the genre and style, sometimes getting a live performance is exactly what a song needs. I'm fortunate enough to have access to all these instruments, and enough experience on them to deliver a passable performance (very enhanced by tuning, editing, and reverb...). It was definitely a lot of work! But in the end, it was worth it.

I hope you consider checking out Battle Suit Aces! There is SO much love put into this game, not just on the music front, and even if at first glance an aspect of the game doesn't quite seem like your style... I think the characters and narrative are so charming that it's worth a look. There's a lot of great moments throughout the game, and a lot of great music to with them, so... consider checking it out! And of course, you can buy / stream the soundtrack as well.
