Watch what Botswana looked like nearly 30 years ago – December 1997.
Our journey begins at the South African border, where the road leads us deep into the vast wilderness of Botswana. The adventure takes us first to the northern reaches of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve and the legendary Deception Valley. From here, we travel onwards to Maun, often called the gateway to the Okavango Delta.
Heading further north, we enter the pristine wilderness of Moremi, then move on to the dramatic landscapes of Savute, the remote beauty of Linyanti, and finally Serondela, on the banks of the Chobe River. The journey concludes in Kasane, a bustling town on Botswana’s north-eastern edge, just a stone’s throw from the thunderous Victoria Falls.
Along the way, we explore national parks, key towns, lodges and campsites, as well as road conditions and practical advice for the adventurous traveller. With Africa once again open to visitors, 4x4 enthusiasts and nature lovers are setting their sights north of the Limpopo. And of all the destinations, Botswana stands out — one of the last true strongholds of African wildlife.
